Consent

You are invited to take part in this online experiment, conducted by the University of Birmingham. The experiment investigates how sensations in response to music are felt in the body. You’ll be asked to listen to a series of short clips of music and indicate on a body silhouette where on the body you feel a desire to move, and, separately, where on the body you feel pleasurable sensations. The study takes no more than 30 minutes to complete.

You will be asked to provide some personal information, such as your age, gender, weight, height, nationality, and whether you have ever sought psychiatric or neurologic treatment. The nature of your responses does not exclude you from participation, and the responses are completely anonymous. Your consent to participate in the study is understood to include a confirmation of your capacity to consent.

The experiment can be completed on a computer only (ie, not on a smartphone or tablet). It is recommended that you use headphones/earphones and complete the experiment in a quiet place. You can end the experiment at any time by closing the browser. However, once you’ve started the survey we will not be able to remove your data from our analyses, due to their anonymity. You will need to complete the whole study in order to receive payment from Prolific. Aside from this, there are no consequences of ending the experiment before it is over.
